This elegant Chinese blue and white porcelain lidded bowl dates from the late 18th to early 19th century, a period celebrated for the refinement of underglaze blue decoration. Finely potted, the bowl and its domed cover are decorated in rich cobalt blue with a traditional scene, likely depicting figures in a landscaped setting with architectural and natural elements rendered in fluid, confident brushwork.
The harmonious composition reflects long-established Chinese artistic themes, evoking ideals of balance, nature, and cultured life. The interior is typically plain or simply finished, allowing the exterior decoration to take visual prominence. The glaze has a soft, luminous quality, enhancing the depth and tonal variation of the blue pigment.
Height: 13.2 centimeter
Condition: The object is in overall very good condition, small flakes to the glaze and two small restored chips to the rim of the bowl.
